My long awaited trip to the wine county of Sonoma, CA left me with more than a full belly and a satisfied palate. I found a new respect for two things we as consumers take for granted, food and its partner in crime, wine.
My friends and I road tripped through Sonoma, stopping at over 25 wineries (not all in one day!) and tasting the treasures that each of them had to offer. The experience was much deeper than just drinking and eating. We were able to see the land from which the very grapes we were sipping grew and meet the folks running it all.The wineries offered a variety of pairings from home made flat bread and local cheese to hot dogs straight off the BBQ (if you can believe it)!
My favorite winery was a cozy little spot called Harvest Moon. It’s casual and cheery feel was inviting and the customer service made us all feel like old friends. We were able to sit outside while we sampled 12 different wines and freshly baked, thin crust pizza. Our server informed us that the pizza maker was also the wine maker, the farmer, the owner and oh yeah…her love. Want to buy local? It doesn’t get any more local than that!
Since Sonoma, my senses have been longing for more. Once your taste buds are awakened, you will never be the same again!
